সিলেটে কয়েক দিনের বৃষ্টি ও উজান থেকে নেমে আসা পাহাড়ি ঢলে নদ-নদীর পানি বেড়েছে। এরই মধ্যে সিলেটের দুটি নদ-নদীর পানি শুষ্ক মৌসুমের বিপৎসীমা অতিক্রম করেছে। বৃষ্টি অব্যাহত থাকলে আগাম বন্যা পরিস্থিতির সৃষ্টি হতে পারে বলে মনে করছেন পানি উন্নয়ন বোর্ডের (পাউবো) কর্মকর্তারা।
পানি উন্নয়ন বোর্ডের তথ্যমতে, ভারতে কয়েক দিন ধরে বৃষ্টির ফলে সিলেটের নদ-নদীগুলোয় পানি বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে। বৃহস্পতিবারই দুটি পয়েন্টে নদীর পানি শুষ্ক মৌসুমের বিপৎসীমা অতিক্রম করেছে।
সুরমা নদীর কানাইঘাট পয়েন্টে শুষ্ক মৌসুমের বিপৎসীমা ১০ দশমিক ৮০ মিটার। বর্ষা মৌসুমে বিপৎসীমা ১৩ দশমিক ৭৫ মিটার। শুক্রবার সকাল ৯ টা থেকে সুরমা নদীর কানাইঘাট পয়েন্টে ১১. ০৩ সেন্টিমিটার উপর দিয়ে প্রবাহিত হচ্ছে।
সারি নদের জৈন্তাপুরের সারিঘাট পয়েন্ট শুষ্ক মৌসুমে বিপৎসীমা ১০ দশমিক ৭০ মিটার। বর্ষা মৌসুমে বিপৎসীমা ১২ দশমিক ৩৫ মিটার। নদের ওই পয়েন্ট পানি ১১ দশমিক ৮৭ মিটারে অবস্থান করছিল, যা শুষ্ক মৌসুমের বিপৎসীমার ওপরে। এ ছাড়া সুরমা নদীর সিলেট পয়েন্ট এবং কুশিয়ারা নদীর শেওলা পয়েন্টেও পানি বৃদ্ধি পাচ্ছে। তবে বিপৎসীমা অতিক্রম করেনি।
এদিকে কয়েক দিনের বৃষ্টি এবং পাহাড়ি ঢলে জৈন্তাপুর উপজেলার কিছু এলাকায় জলাবদ্ধতা তৈরি হয়েছে। বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে উপজেলার নদ-নদীর পানি। এর মধ্যে ডিবির হাওর ও কেন্দ্রী হাওরে পানি বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে। দুই হাওরে পানির নিচে তলিয়ে গেছে বোরো ফসল।
জৈন্তাপুর উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা (ইউএনও) উম্মে সালিক রুমাইয়া বলেন, উপজেলার প্রায় ৯৮ শতাংশ ফসল কাটা শেষ হয়েছে। ফলে পানি বৃদ্ধি পেলেও ফসল ক্ষতি হওয়ার তেমন কোনো শঙ্কা নেই। এ ছাড়া কেউ পানিবন্দী অবস্থায় রয়েছেন তেমন খবর পাওয়া যায়নি। উপজেলা প্রশাসন পরিস্থিতি পর্যবেক্ষণে রেখেছে। পাশাপাশি জনসাধারণকে সতর্ক থাকতে বলা হয়েছে।
সিলেট পাউবোর নির্বাহী প্রকৌশলী দীপক রঞ্জন দাশ বলেন, প্রাক্–বর্ষা মৌসুমে সিলেটে ও ভারতে বৃষ্টির ফলে নদ-নদীর পানি বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে। ভারতে বৃষ্টি কমে গেলে পরিস্থিতি স্বাভাবিক হয়ে যাবে। তবে ভারতে বৃষ্টি অব্যাহত থাকলে আগাম বন্যা দেখা দিতে পারে। এ সময় সিলেটের নদ-নদীগুলোর পানি বর্ষা মৌসুমের বিপৎসীমা অতিক্রম করতে পারে।
